SOUTHERN FOOTBALL.
(own correspondent.)
CiiRiSTCiiuRCiT, May 12,
The inter-club Christchurch matches were begun to-day, though the weather was very unfavourable. The match East Christchurch tv. Canterbury College was played on Lancaster Park. The ground was fearfully slippery, so that good play was out of the question. A. Hobbs potted a goal, and F. Hobbs secured a try for the East Christchurch, who won by four points to nil. Besides these players Hassell, Gossan and Dow played well, while Hutton, Haast and Cresswell worked hard for the College. The winners suffered greatly by the loss of Frances and Roberts, the former having gone to Melbourne and the latter to Wellington.
