SERIOUS ACCIDENT AT ONEHUNGA.
A HOLIDAY PARTY IN TROUBLE,
Yestrrday morning, at about half-past eleven o'clock, Mrs Quinnan, an old woman of 75 years of age, was seriouely injured through being run over by a horse and trap, in Queen-street, Onehunga. The occupants of the trap were John Hqgan (of Panmure), Harais Isaacs (of Frecmans Bay), and Patrick Kavanah (a bush man), and it was being driven by Hogan. When Mrs Quinnan, who was crossing the street at the time, was knocked down by the horse. The old lady escaped being trampled on, but one of the -wheels passed over the right leg. She was immediately picked up by the neighbours, and Doctor W. R. Erson was instantly in attendance. Ho found an incised wound of about six inches long just above the ankle, while the arm and shoulder were also severely bruised. Sergeant Green and Constable Haslett followed the trap and arrested the men Hogan and Harris as they were about to cross the Mangare Bridge. The three men Avere brought before Dr. Scott, Dr. Erson and Mr Thomas-Bull, J.P. at the Police Court to-day, Harris Isaacs, boot maker, Freeman's Bay, Auckland, was charged with being drunk. In this easo the Sergeant sbated that the accused was the owner of the cart in which he with two others were when the trap was driven over Mrs Quinnan, through which she surtaine-d serious injuries. Fined 20s or 48 hours. John Hogan, from Panmure, was charged with being drunk whilst being in charge of the horse and trap owned by the last accused, when the accident to Mrs Quinnan occurred. William Morton an intelligent youth deposed to seeing the old lady being ■knocked down by the horse and trap. Dr. W. R. Erson deposed to the injuries sustained by Mrs Quinnan. The accused, who pleaded guilty and regretted the accident very; much, was fined £5, or one month's imprisonment, with cost amounting to _ 119s. Prtrick Kavanagh, the third occupant of the spring cart, was charged with being drunk, and fined 5s and costs.
