AUCKLAND INDUSTRIAL ASSOCIATION.
The Committee of the above Association held their usual weekly meeting in their rooms, Wyndhanvatreetj last evening, Mr Thos. Gee in the chair.
After the usual business had been dealt with ? a communication was read from the Protection League of Otago, in reference to framing a tariff to be presented to Parliament next session, and stating that they were in favour of going in for the Victorian tariff, with changes to suit this colony. A letter was also read from the Protection Association of Canterbury, dealing with the same subject, and asking this Association if it is prepared to adopt it also. In reply to the. foregoing, the Secretary was instructed to state that a.tariff, similar to the Victorian, was under consideration, and will report fully after next meeting. . Correspondence was also read from the Protection Industrial Association of Wellington, suggesting the advisability oi holding a meeting of delegates from the various Associations throughout the colony,-at Wellington, to arrange a proposed tariff to be presented to GQYejnmet during the recess, and other important business. After some discussion the meeting thought the advisibility of holding the Conference uncertain, but would fully consider the question. Secretary directed to notify accordingly. The Committee, then decided to open a permanent exhibition or sample rooms on or about the end of the ensuing month, with a view of removing the absurd prejudice which exists againsteverything colonial. The Association is confidentthat by removing thisidea, oneof the greatest enemies to local industries will have- been destroyed. The forthcoming exhibition promises to. be a success in every way, and, judging from the support already promised, the colonial manufacturers are determined that their goods will not be overlooked. Conditions under which exhibits are to be received are to be sent to all manufacturers, throughout the colony, and the Committee feel certain that a large and. varied assortment of exhibits will b^ the result.
