WAIKATO NOTES.

(from our own correspondent.)

Hamilton, Thursday. Heavy rains fell on the Raglan ranges yes terday, and the roads were almost impass able in sonic parts.

The railway employees have handed over a sum of £58 Is to the widow of the late Mr Leach, who, it will be remembered, was killed by falling off the cowcatcher at the Hamilton West station some short time since.

The parishioners of St. Andrew's, Cambridge, are to be congratulated upon the healthy state of their finances during the past year. Over and above the ordinary revenue, tfcere has been raised during the past year £470. The expenses connected with the raising of this sum amounted to £140, leaving £430 to be applied to the reduction of the church debt and interest. The debt upon the church now stands at £275, with interest paid up to date. This is indeed gratifying to the churchwardens and vestrymen, and they deserve credit for their eneigy during the past year. The Rev. Mr Robjohns, agent of the British and Foreign Bible Society, addressed a well-attended meeting in Hamilton last night on the necessity of the extension of the Bible. The Rev. R. O.C. Biggs occupied the chair; the Rev. J. Dellow, Wesleyan minister, was dlso on the platform. The lecturer was listened to with marked attention. At the close a committee was formed, consisting of the Revs. J. Dellow, Biggs, Comrie, Colonel Forbes, Messrs Cox and H. Steele, with power to add to their number. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the lecturer.

The Waipa race meeting takes place, on Monday next, when a large gathering of local sports is expected.
