DESPITE the cloudy sky, there was a good muster of sportsmen at the Ta>apuna trysting-place to-day, ofth e Spring Meeting, of tbo Takapuna Jockey Club. The course was in oxcellent order, and the various events were well con" tested.
MAIDEN PLATE of SOsovs. For all horses that have not won an advertised race exceeding 20SOV8. Weight for age. .Distance, 1 mile.

The race was won by two lengths. Divl dend, £11 19s.
HANDICAP HURDLES of 50sovs; second horse to receive saoys out of stakes. Over / flights OC hurdles. Distance 2 miles. Silvio (Nolan) 1 Wideawake (Geo. Laing) ... 2 Sirloin (Rowe) 3 Holly, rode by Hatfield, also ran. Wideawake was the favourite, but Silvio was also strongly supported. The latter got the benefit of the start, and for the first time round left Wido awake by a length. On talcing the, jump near the start in the second time round Holly went down, inflicting a gash upon his off fore ley. Silvio's staying power told, and he won without being pressed. Sirloin a very bad third. The dividend was £2 13s Od.
The Northern Jockey Club (Whangarei) have decided to hold thoir Summer Meeting on December 26th and 27th. A capital programme has been arranged. It is a matter of regret that the Club have decided on holding their meeting on Auckland Cup day, as Auckland horses will bo prevented from attending both meetings. Nominations for the Trial Stakes, Hurdle Race, Thames Plate, Stewards' Handicap, Goldtields Handicap, and Steeplechase, to bo run at tho Thames Jockey Club's Meeting, are due at eight o'clock to-night. The racing mare Friendship was sold yesterday for 112 guineas, Mr Alison, of the North Shore, being the purchaser.
