DOUBTS AS TO THE PERMANENCE
OF THE FIELD.
Thames, this day.
Several miners have visited the scene of the " find " reported a few days ago by Messrs Wright and Bedford, but express grave doubts as to its permanence. It is true that the prospectors obtain really good dish prospects, but those competent to form an opinion say that it is altogether unlikely that the gold will carry downwards. It will doubtless be recollected that none of the discoveries made in this neighbourhood have ever resulted in anything of importance, the deposit being of an alluvial nature in every instance.
