QUARTERLY PAYMENTS IN DISTRICT SCHOOLS.
(To the Editor.)
Sir,—l was not aware until to-day (Saturday) that my name had been mentioned in your columns in connection with the question of the quarterly payments collected in district schools. I beg to state that any publication of my opinions upon the subject was not authorised nor expected by me. Permit me to add, "with reference to Mr Coates, that I have recently.learned the following two facts: —First, that in thO discharge of his official duties he is regarded, by parsons having the best opportunities of judging, as signally considerate and sympathetic ; and secondly, that members of the Board of Education value Mr Coates as in the very first rank of efficient and skilful teaohers.—l am, etc, Robt. Kidd.
