At the meeting of the Hospital Board yesterday, it was agreed that tho Housesurgeon shall not be allowed any fees or private practice, and it was decided to request the Government to permit the Agent-General to select the most suitablo of the English applicants. Several other matters were then considered. It was decided not to reduce the number of the nursing staff, and that tho system of probationary nurses be tried. The purchasing of a number of additional instruments was deferred until after the appoint] merit of the House Surgeon. . Power was given to the House Steward, should there Bo any further complaints regarding the milk supply, to terminate the contract. The Newmarket Waterworks Arbitration Court is still sitting, and \3 not to conclude its labour.-i until to-morrow. Mr W. J. Suiter was under examination during the •whole of yesterday and the greater part of ■.to-day. . Attention is called to the sale of household furniture and effects which is to be .held by B. Tonka and Co. to-morrow at the residence of Mr G-. W. Rait, Artillery Road, 'North Shore.' The furniture is almost new and several of the articles are very choice. Saxon shares are in request at about 2s *2d and Prince Imperial at 3s. Tho ■.reports from both these mines continue very favourable. Royal Oaks are quoted, buyers 3s and more offered. JVloanataiaris wanted at 2s Gd, and Caledonian about 3s ; Bank of New Zealand are firm at Ll6, Colonial at 41s. Loan and Mercantile could be placed at GOs. There are sellers of shipping shares, and no quoted ! Buyers.
