London, August 1. jflr fcne "SHouse of Lords to-day Lord Salisbury, in. replying to a question stated that the attention of the French Government had been fully directed to the gravity of the New Hebrides question, and . his Government only hoped that France would carry into practice their declared opinions there: anentj which were judged to be entirely oorrect. His Lordship further announced that: the French Government had delayed the negotiations re. garding the Suez Canal and the New Hebrides since 2nd May last.
