NEW ZEALAND RADICAL REFORM LEAGUE.
The usual monthly meeting of the above Society took place in the Excelsior Hall last night, Mr Greenwood presiding. Several new members joined the League. Among the correspondence received was a paper on tho advantages of Protection, which, being anonymous, was not'read. It was thought' that the writer should bave joined the League and come in person to explain his views. It was then moved by Mr Duffusand seconded by MrMcManus, "Thai) in the opinion of this League Mr Vaile's railway tariff should have a fair trial upon some line in this colony. Such experiment) to be made under the management or supervision of Mr Vaile if possible." After the proposition had been fully discussed the motion was unanimously adopted. Mr McManus moved, "That this meeting is of opinion that any member supporting any candidate not pledged to our platform, aa amended by the Trades and Labour Council, is undermining the principles of the Radical Reform League." Considerable discussion arose upon this suggestion, during which, while all agreed that the Council had meb the League in a handsome and liberal spirit, several expressed the opinion thai) the motion went a little too far in the direction of interfering with individual freedom. The Chairman pointed out the expediency of deferring the further consideration of the subject until the Society's delegates to were present, and his suggestion was adopted. Dr. Bea.e then gave notice to move next month that a platform be drown up to be subscribed to by all members of the association. The debate on female suffrage was postponed till a future occasion.
