THE EGYPTIAN QUESTION.
FRENCH JEALOUSY OF ITALY.
(SPECIAL.)
London, July 2. It is commonly rumoured that Italy and England intend to act in concert for the purpose of checkmating French designs in Egypt and the Mediterranean. The French Ambassador at Rome has made a formal complaint to the Italian Government regarding the tone of the speech by Siguor Crispi, on the Massowah question, in which he eulogised England's policy, and declared that Italy and England were in accord with regard to Egypt. The Ambassador stated that his Government especially objected to the evident desire of Italy to minimise French rights, and openly hinted that it is possible France may be compelled to assert herself.
