Wonderful Speed of a Vessel Built for
the Spanish Navy.
Wonderful strides are being made in the construction of torpedo-boabs. The per, formances of bhe new Thorneycrofb boat, builb for the Spanish Government, are amazing. On three runs over measured miles last week, against the tide, she averaged over thirty miles an hour. In the previous week, with bhe bide in her favour, and a forced draughb, she positively accomplished thirty-three and a half miles an hour. Such a boat has nob much bo fear from the English ronclads which, barring one or two recent exceptions, average from twelve to thirteen knots,' and still less from a'gunboat of the type of the brand new English racer, whose maximum speed since she" has been in commission is about seven knots.
