Thames, this' day. , Slr Brome, Chairman of the' County Council, has received a telegram from Sir Julius Vogel stating that it had been decided to lend the Council £5,400 under the Govern-; ment Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886. It will be remembered that a poll of ratepayers taken in December, 1886, was favourable to the Council borrowing £12,000, but owing to certain technical objections being raised by the Treasury Department the loan was never granted, although correspondence has been carried on ever sinco.
