Thames, this' day. , Slr Brome, Chairman of the' County Council, has received a telegram from Sir Julius Vogel stating that it had been decided to lend the Council £5,400 under the Govern-; ment Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886. It will be remembered that a poll of ratepayers taken in December, 1886, was favourable to the Council borrowing £12,000, but owing to certain technical objections being raised by the Treasury Department the loan was never granted, although correspondence has been carried on ever sinco. Considerable satisfaction' is expressed at part, 45,400, being allowed, k . ~! ,-hii
