POWER OF VETO.
Action Against a Licensing Com inittee.

. : ' Ddnedin, Wednesday. A case under the Licensing Act came before the Supreme Court to-day, in which Harold; late holder of a license for the Ravensbourne Hotel, sought for a mandamus, to compel the Licensing Committeee to issue a license. The : Committee, in their defence, said the reason which "actuated them in refusing it was their Belief that the house was not required inthe neighbourhood. Mr Justice Williams, in giving his decision, said a mandamus was out of the question. When a license was t opposed, the licensee, had notice of it, although the ground of objection was not stated;, but that was done afterwards in Court. , The licensee had waived his right to -an adjournment, and the Committee had deliberated arid given their decision, and it must be, assumed in doing •so they made use of their own ) knowledge, and acted on their own opinions. To issue a_ mandamus would only be to put the plaintiff in.the same position as if the case'had been adjourned. Jiidgment for the- defendants with cosi^. .
