ELECTORAL NOTES.

Newton. Mr H. R. Jury announces himself as a candidate for the Newton seat. He expresses himself in favour of protection, nationalisation of the land, the imposition of a land tax, and if necessary an income tax in lieu of the property tax, the maintenance of the education system intact, and the limitation of votes to one. If the new district of Newton comprises the borough of Newton and the Arch Hill Highway District, Mr Alexander Lee has decided to contest the new seat. The Mayor of Newton, Mr R. T. Warnock, declared nomination. Eden. Mr E. Mitchelson lias definitely decided to stand for Eden, and will go in opposition to the Hon. J. A. Tole for the division of that district that tho Minister of Justice announces himself for. The Newton portion of tho district will be cut off by the new boundaries. City West. Efforts are being made to induce Mr Goldie to stand for City West in the Opposition Interest. Mr J. M. Shera has been solieted to become a candidate for City West, but wishes to see the new boundaries before deciding whether he will stand for that district or the new electorate. Parnell. Mr E. Mitchelson was asked to contest this seat in the Opppsition interest, but declined. Mr Seymour George is to have the support of the Opposition party in his candidature for Parnell. Mr F. G. Clayton, of Newmarket, has decided to come forward as a candidate for tho representation of Parnell. Rodney. The candidates for this seat are numerous. Besides Messrs Moat, Palmer, and Hudson, who have already announced themselves, Messrs Jackman and Colbeck are now canvassing for support. The last named is a son of Captain Colbeck. Waikato. Mr J. B. Whyto has been confined to his house for some days with rheumatic goufc. Ho has issued his address to the electors. Marsdcn. The electors of this district meet tomorrow evening at Whangarei to select a candidate to run for the district. Mr Mitchelson, the present member, leaves tonight for the purpose of attending and taking part in the meeting. Mr Robert Thompson, Chairman of the County Council, is said to be the candidate most likely to receive the support of the meeting. Mr John Lundon has convened a meeting for Monday night at Otahuhu, for the purpose, ho says, of defending the Village Settlement scheme from tho attacks of Mr Buckland. He also announces a meeting in tho Temperance Hall on Tuesday for the purpose of " Hansardising " the Auckland members.
