BURIED TREASURE.
Twenty-five Millions Unearthed in India-
The Financial Secretary for India has advised the Government of the discovery of an immense amount of treasure, estimated at §25,000,000, Avhich Avas secreted in his palace by the Mabajarah. The treasure had been sunk in pits under the vaults beneath the Beenan. The secret Avas intrusted to a feAV confidential The Secretary was present Avhen the treasure Avas unearthed. After removing the earth to a depth of six feet the Avorkmen revealed a number of great flagstones. Beneath these Avere several pits filled Avith silver, chiefly freshly coined rupees. In each pit Avas a plate recording the amount of treasure and the names of the officials Avho assisted in secreting it. The Indian Government has taken the hoard as a loan from the young Maharajah. The native papers protest against this action. They say that had the Maharajah been an adult instead of under a regency controlled by the Government he Avould never have im r ested his Avhole Avealth in Indian securities. The question will be raised'in Parliament astOAvhether the " investment" be not another name for a seizure.
