POLICE COURT—THIS DAY.

(Before Messrs F. L. Prime, S. Y. Collins, and W. McCullough, Justices.) Drunkenness. —Charles Porteous was fined 5s and costs, or, in default, 24 hours' hard labour, for having been drunk yesterday. Dikty Yards. - John Brown was charged with having committed a breach of the City Council by-laws No. G, section 11, by neglecting to cleanso his private yard in Dock-street. Defendant pleaded guilty to having offal from fish on his premises for a short time.—Mr Goldie, Inspector of Nuisances, deposed that he had visited the defendant's back yard-in oonsequenco of complaints having been made to him. There was a nuisance oxisting , which required abating. -Mr Ephraim Mills deposed that he had complained to tho Sanitary Department in consequence of the intolerable stench arising from the defendant's back yard. It arose from fish offal. Witness resided next door to the defendant. Witness had been compelled to complain about this nuisance before.—Joseph Townly, deputy - inspector, also testified to the nuisance complained of. — Tho defendant said that.there was no drainage at his place, and the- fish were only 24 hours upon his premises. Owing to tho bad weather he had been unable to take the. offal away in the dingy. — Tho Bench inflicted a tino of 5s and costs.
