A. Dismissed Major's Grievance

The dismissal of Major Garner, Commanding Officer in the Napier Volunteer district,. is gazetted. Napier, Thursday. Major Garner announces his intention of proceeding for libel against the Wellington •' Post" and the Press Association, for a telegram published by the former and telegraphed throughout the colony by the latter, to the effect that the Defence Minister, after inquiry, had determined to dismiss Garner, one ot the alleged grounds being an assault by him on a Volunteer in uniform. He denies that theio was any inquiry into this charge, and states that the first he heard of this affair was from the paragraph in question. He was never asked for any explanation or defence, although the regulations provide for inquiries into all such charges.
