Messrs Ci. E. Mannering, C. fl. Inglis, and M. ,J. Dixon left Christchurch this morning for Fairlio Creek, to attempt tho ascent of Mount Cook.
Shortly aftor one o'clock this morning a young woman known as Ethel Smith,whoso real mimo is said to bo Mucauloy, narrowly oscuood poisoning by sugar of lead. She asked a cjuipaniou for a drink, and by mistako was given a decoction of sugar of lead. Medical aid was procured, and sho was removed to the hospital. For some time eho was in great daugor, but ultimately recovered.
