At a mooting of tho Eight Hours Douionttration Committee, held last evoning, the following rosolutious were adopted: — " That tho unanimoua thanks of this Committee be aecoideii to those who so liberally supporteil with donations, trophies, and their asi-istanco in buying ticketn from tho Bight Hours' Demonstration Committeo, and "That the unanimous vote of detesta tion be accorded to those mean sneaks who game in through fences, aud thus took a moan advantage of a committee weak in numbers, but not in spirit."
There is a more healthy feeling on 'Change to-Jay. People are beginning to see that 5 per cent, on fixed deposit at the banks is not so good aa 9 per cent, on good atock, and more business in this lino is being now done than of late. The immediate cauEe for this is tho reduclion of the bank rate, which up to about a fortnight ago was 6 per cent., it being then reduced to 5. Auckland Gaa eharea (new) sold at £5 7s 6d to-day, there being a good demand for them. Loan and Mercantile shares went at £3 17s Id, little being, however, done. New Zealand Land and Mortgage Company's shares fetched 20s 3d, there being a fair demand.
