BOWLING AND LAWN TENNIS.
The bowling season opened under good auspices on Saturday,; tba attendance at tho green being large and enthusiastic, The business part of the meeting began at three o'clock, when an adjournment was made to the new pavilion-of the Club, and Mr Winks elected Chairman. After having offered, his congratulations to tho Club on the good state of its affaire, he stated he had receiver! a letter from an old Dunedin p'ayer'.,a ,Mr Callender) suggesting that tho" Club join the' New Zealand Bowling Association recently formed. Mr Gorrie thereupon gave notice of the motion, to be brought forward »t their ,'next meeting, " That the Auckland Bowling Club take the necessary steps to join the New Zealand Bowling Association." Twenty-one new members were then nominated, and medals won last season presented to Messrs Mirfin, Moore, Winks, and Gorrie. The Vice-President (Mr Winks>)then opened the season by "throwing the Jack,'' and during the afternoon the following games were played:—No. 1 Rink.—Officers of Club v. Members: Officers, Messrs Tait, J. Ross, Kirkwood, Winks (skip)—l2; v. Members, Messrs Sounders, D. J. M'vLeod, J. Frater, Ringßwell(ekip)—2l. No. 2Rink. —Offioerp, Messrs Paterson, Mirfin, Gorrie, Miller (skip) -21 ; v. Members, Messrs Green, Moore, Billington, Scott (ship), Officers winning by 2 points. No. 3.—Messrs Harker, Goldie, Oliphant (skip)—2l; v. Mossrs Jones, Lyell, D. Ross (skip)—l4, No. 4.—Messrs Winks,. Kirkwood, J. Roes, Tnit (skip)—ll; v. Kingswell, ITrator, MoLaod, Saunders (skip)—l4. The lawn tennis part of the ground wos well attended, a number of ladies being present.
