Tho cost would bo £'235 Gs, 9d, against W2O 18s Cd tho drain would cost if going via Park Avenue, After somo discussion aa to whether tho ropidonts of Claremont-etrcot c-hould bo re questod to pay ono-third of the total cost of the drain, Cr Ko?o moved, "That the Engineer bo instructed to proparo plans and apocitications for laying 9-inch pipes from the lowest part of Claremont strcot, running through Messrs Palmor and WhitoV property, to connect with sower from Gaol."—This motion, seconded by Mr Clayton, was curried. The Firo Brigade Committeo suggested that tondore be invitod for tho construction of a hose reel, and that tho uniform of tho corps, &c, bo procured. The report waa adopted. Tho Inspoctor of Nuisances' ro port was also adopted. Ilia Worship then epeko of tho nuuibor of ratepayers who did no* drain their properties aa requirod of them by tho borough. —It was agrtcd, " That offending ratepayers bo procoedod against under tho Act." Tho Stroota Commit cc's attention was then- called to tho condition of tho Hospital drain, in a motion. Tho Town Clerk was instructed to write to the propdotor of tho Captain Cook Hotel, aeking him " who gavo tho nccoesary permission for tho erection of tho etroet lamp now jilaced in front of his property." Tho busino?s of defaulting ratopayoi'g thon took up tho remaining part of tho evening, it being roeolved to tako proceedings against defaulters.
