BOARD OF EDUCATION.
The uaual meeting of the above body waß held this afternoon. Present: Mews S. Luke (chairman), J. M. Lennox, J. C Carr, J. M. Clark, Theo. Cooper, T. Upton, D. Goldie, and W. Moat.
Pofil Teacher's Examination. — The Secretary read a supplementary report on arithmetic examination of pupil teachers. Passed at end of first year : —
Helena A. Gilbert, Mount Eden ; Clara Hoyle, Avondalo: Mabel E. Kissliug, Bereaford street; Helen McGoe, East Tamiki. Passed at end of 2nd year: ' Agnes S. French, Mt. Albert; Alice S. M. Gordon, Welleeley-street; Barbara McQ.uarrie, Wel-lesley-etreet; Susan J. Armstan, Newton East, Eliza Reed, Grafton Road.—The Secretary stated that 10 compiled and 9 passed.—The report was adopted. Wesley College. —On the recommendation of the Girls' High Scluol Committee, it was resolved to discontinue the appointment of a matron, and obtain the services of a married cauplo instead. It was also roEolved to pay the amount of rent, as asked by tho Trustees of the Weeloy College, who refused to accept the reduction offered by tho Boaid.
Auckland Training Colleue. — The Visiting Committee of the above College, in their report, recommended as follows : —
That the apparatus euggestcd by Professor Brown aa necessary for the teaching of elementary science in public school* be ordered from England, at a cost of £107 13s 2d. — Ko letter from Otago Education Board, suggesting interchange of inspectors : That a reply be sent to the effect that the Auckland district has already been subdivided into three divisions, each boing takon by an inspector in turn?, and that the Board has therefore no uecepsity for further action in the mattor. —Re probationary pupil teachers: That the following probationary pupil teachers bo indentured for a torm of three yeorp, subject to the regulations :—Teresa A. Honan, Jane Hunt, Margaret Hunter, Sarah A. X Hamlin, and Elizabeth J. Bennett.—The report was read and adopted, and the Committee authorised to obtain tho scientific apparatus.
Report ok Visiting Committee upon Applications for Appointment of Principal.—Your Committee having examined the applications' received in answer to advertisement, recommend that a selection bj made from Gulliver, M.A., and Mr William Wood ; the following two candidates:—Eev. B. H. also, that the head-master of the Practicing school be appointed as Vic6Frepidont of the Training College at a fixed salary of £400 per annum a*, headmaster, and £100 as vice-president. On the motion of the Chairman, it was reeolved to vota by ballot. This was done, when the result, '.'.ac as follows : — Gulliver 5 Wond 2
