Floods ln Wellington District.

Woodvillu, this day. —There has been a heavy rainfall in this district for the past two days, causing all tho low lyina ports ot the district to be flooded. It ii still raining heavily, and if it continues much damage will bo done. Tbe coaches were unable to cross the Manawatu line, but the mails wore got over by means of a boat.

Blenheim, this day.—The Marlborough Cricket Clubs have joined the Association, and have cabled to Melbourne date and terms for a two days' match with the English cricketers in Blenheim. Five clubs havo already joined the Association, and Cup matches will be played, .

Wanganui, this day.—The Jockey Club Committee last night met and cansidered a local racing scandal, in which McElwain, a publican, charged Cahill, a trainer, with swindling him by getting him to wager heavily on a private match, Cahill using McElwain's cheques. . The Committee decided that thoy had no jurisdiction ovor wngors. Both mon will be examined as to using bad language on the

CUKISTCHURCH, this day.—At the annual mooting of tho New Zealand Cyclist Alliance last night, Mr \V. U. Wynn Williams was re-elected prosidont. It was decided to havo live championship races during tha season, fo bo held by the following clubs : — North Cantorburv, 1 milo ; Pioneer, 3 miles ; Christchurch] 5 miles ; Waitemata, 10 miles; Invercargill, 25 miles. The six clubs to have permission to exchange races if necessary.

Dunedin, this day.—ln the ca=o of How Chew Sing, who pleaded guilty to robbery from a dwelling, Mr Galloway nppsared in defenco, and asked that prisoner should be dealt with undor First Offenders' Probation Act. Tho judge said it was doubtful whether he could entertain tho application. The Act was intended to apply to prima fade British subjects (Europeans), and ho saw some difficulty in tho way of applying it to foreigners. He did not want to exclude them from the benefit, but prima fack Bhould say that the Legislature had not their case in view. Tho case was ordered to stand ovor.
