Australian papers per s.s. Manapouri to-day state that Trident's victories at Hand wick to a groat extent have paralysed betting on tbe V.H.C. Derby and Melbourne Cup. For tho Derby, s's to I aro eagerly snapped up about the son of Robinson Crusoe, and G to 1 is freely taken about him for th* Cup. Little John nnd Mnlua are quoted at 100 to 6. For the CaulTield Cup, Ben Bolt, William Toll ami Silvermine divide the favouritism.
It is stated that the Hon. J. White has refused 10.000 guineas for Trident. In the Band wick Plato the colt started with tho odds of S to 1 on him, and won as ho liked. He was ridden by Ellis.
Tho Hon. J. White's horses have left for Melbourne. The team consists of Acme. Trident, Volcano, Monte Christo, Tamarisk, Neophyte, Lava, Pontelix, and Sumatra. Trenton is also in work, and was to be takon to Melbourne at the latter end of last week.
At Flemington, Duke of Athol and Little John do not please the touts, but Ben Bolt pleases them immensely.
