BEACH v. HANLAN,

London', September 27, noon. The London sporting press is devoting much space to criticising the rocent performances of Beach on the Thames. The verdict is unanimous that Beach is the finest sculler that has rowed over the championship course. Hanlan arrived to-day. His advent has been anticipated by loud challenges to Beach. The champion has again replied, and stated that he is fully prepared to meet Hanlan, but not on tho Thames. Beach says that If he followed the dictates of his own wishos ho would at once make an example of the Canadian, but he is certain that if he took that course it would nieot with the unanimous disapproval of all his Australian friends, Beach says that before he left Australia ho promised his friends that ho would not bo entrapped into rowing lato in the season. That promise he intends to keep. Ho has been waiting in England for challenges from the world. He is willing to meet any one. Ho has defeated all who measured ability with him, and now he says that Hanlan, if ho is so anxious for a match, must meet him on the Paramatta River. Beach's manly conduct and his firm decision is received With general favour by the aquatic world.
