BOARD OF EDUCATION.
Mr H. Crispe wrote stating that the Mauku School Committee were ready to hand over tho two acres required for the Bchool, and asking the Board to permit them to remove the fences and plough the land; Resolved that the requests of the applicant be granted, and the solicitor be instructed to prepare the necessary deeds. It was resolved that the Mercer Committee be informed that the Board would pay half costs towards painting tho school in that district. A communication was received from the Engineer stating that notification had been received to connect Newton school drainage with the main sewer. The cost would be £39 9s. Resolved that the work be authorised, subject to the approval of tho School Committee. An application for £20 for gravel for the same school was ordered to stand over for one week. ___|11 was resolved to prepare specifications ior a new school in Newton West district at an estimated cost of £970. It *as decided to ask the district to contribute a similar amount to Newmarket, viz., £50. The Chairman of the Rotorua Committee wrote asking the Board to call tenders for the new school near the Palace Hotel. —The consideration of this was adjourned. An application for a school for Ruatangata was referred to tho Native Department, as many of the children in the district were natives.
