A MAIDEN'S DREAMS.
No footfall wakens the mansion As'-eep in the Bun's warm rays, Iho Lady Clare ia aweary Of silenie and lonely days; Love's magic of late has Btolen The charm from her life's stlU wars. She turns from her book ond rises To gaze through the casement low. The laogrouß lily perfumes Towards her on soft airs blowWhite lilies! Ah. once she loved them : She gathers red roses now. Oh, when will the noon be sunset 1 And over the green hillside. And up through the beeches' shadows The lover she lcoks for, ride 7 And when will thiß life ba ended, ■ And bring the bright life untried 1 Whilo thus sho waits in impatience. Naught guesse'h the Lady Clare. That ewcat as are Love's rsd roses Full often a thorn they bear. And the new life that soems so joyous May bring with it weight of care. Perhaps in tbe years that follow. When cares press hetvily. And the thorns have ricrc a through the rosea, . • Then, all their dreatmu-r will be Of tho old life 'mid tho liUoa.
