BEYOND.
When a child, In the suony days ot yore, I loved to wander alone by tho shore. And aa I scanned the horlson'a verge. To tho point where the heavens in waves did merge. ■ . A feeling of longing arose in my mindAc ardent feeling of longing to And What was hidden ties ond tbe far distant blue How happy, I thought. It only I knew 1 Ann I wished for the seagull's pinions to fly. For away to the meeting of sea and Bay— Soaring above the clouds on high— - In search of the great Beyond. Yeara have flown (Oh! how quick they' take Since those thoughtful moments of life's budding spring. Now, each click of tho clock dotb seem to say. " Your summer-time 13 foot gliding away. I stand as a mm where I Btood as a child. Before mo Life's ocean tempestuous aud wild; And far away In the distance I see Tho point where Time touches Eternity. The waves are Binging their saddest £oni?. While thoughts within me tbey throb ana throng; __•,, And in owe, in wonder. In doubt I long For a glimpse of the great Beyond. O. E. Hugo.
