V.M.C.A. CONVERSAZIONE.
Theek was a large attendance at tho conversazione hold in the City Hall last night in connection with the Young Men's Christian Association, the chair being occupied by Mr J. L. Wilson, ono of tho viceprosidents. Tho Chairman Etated that tho meeting was meant to bo quite informal, and at tho outset he invited visitors to inspect a lino collection of microscopes and other instruments lent for the occasion, besides a number of photographs and paintings. In the course of the evening iho following musical programme wus performed : - So!o, " Down the Shadowed Lane," Mies Coney ; solo, "The Flying Dutchman" (Parr, junr.), Mr T. Charter; solo, "Eldorado" (E. Brocken), Mr T. Hirst; glee, " Maiden of the Flour do Leys" (E. A. Sydenham ), _t. Sepulchre's GlooClub ; glee, " There is Beauty in the Mountain " (Sir John Gose), bt. Sepulchre's Glee Club ; glee, " Night, Lovely Night" (Francesco Berger), St. Sepulchre's Glee Club ; solo, selected, Mrs Stone ; tring quartette, minuet, and trio (Mozart), Messrs Edger, C. Hemus, Clough, and J. Hemus ; duet, "Now we are Ambassadors" (St. Paul), Messrs Murray and Abel ; solo, " There is a Green Hill Far Away " (Gounod), Mr A. T. Hookey; solo, pianoforte, Miss Abbott ; duet, "The Sailor Sighs," Miss Maunsell aud Mr Gilmoro ; solo, "Robin's Beturn " (Gabriel), Miss Corbatt. Mr F. Battley gave a brief address, in which he referred to tho fine now building now in course of erection for the Y.M.O.A. Tiie cost of this building was £3,600, of which over £1,700 bad beon contributed, £5,000 had beon borrowed from the Savings Bank, and they required £1,597 more. They intended to havo a systematic canvas/so that all might be induced to contribute to the extent of their power. Tho Hon G. Waldegrnvo and Mr Trotter also gave brief addresses, which were listened to with attention.
