This Morning's Training Notes,

[l!Y HIPFONA.J

Anticipating some work of an unusual character, a largo number of onlookers put in an appoarance at Elleralio this morning, but they were somewhat diaappointod for their journey out, nothing of importance taking place. Nelson was tho lirst to make his appearanco on the track, and ho wont twice round at a good swinging paco, moving freely and well. The Cup favourite Stoneyhurat had Wapiti for a companion, and tho pair put in about two miles, the greater portion of which was done at their best. Stoneyhurat got over the ground in an excellent manner, but Wapiti ippeared to go a trifle short. Dorringer and Muck (in company) wero- sent once round strongly, when Musk was beaten off, and King joined Derringor, the pair coming home fast. Subsequently Musk and King put in another three rounds at medium pace, and the two-year-olds Petroleum (in neck cloth) and Cateaby did similar work. Foul Shot, Libeller, and Tetford (in clothing) cantered twice round, coming homo with a smart brush, and Alpine Rose and Capaizo performed useful work. Taaman, who had a body cloth on, was treated to about throe miles, moving in a very taking mannor. Tho son of St. Albans ia looking in great nick. Wright sent Woodnymph, Rovolver, and Contractor ueetul work, the former striding along in good stylo, and Waitiri, after accomplishing once round at medium pace, was picked up by Salvage tho pair putting in a strong milo. The two-year-old colt Scot Free was restricted to an easy task, and Quilp and Medico(in company) did serviceable work, spurting homo. Carbineer and Cast Ashore were sent a useful two miles, and the jumpers Kingask, Alario, Alfred, and Caoutohouc did serviceable work. Turcjuoifo and Necklace were not out, and it 19 said that the pair were tried over the Cup distance about mid-day on Saturday last, Necklace having a lot tho best of the gallop. Among those on the course this morning was Mr II Redwood, who arrived by tho s.s. Hawea yesterday. The Cup candidate Refrigerator and Clogs, also arrived by tho same steamer, and the laßtnamod waa among the horses out, but Refrigerator did not put in an appearance. Consequent on a good gallop with Tasman on Saturday morning, Waitiri has come in for some notico for tho Auckland Cup, and about 500 hna been written againßt her at 100 to 8 and 10. On Saturday night, 300 to 90 was accepted about Stonoyhurst, and for the Steoplechaeo 200 to 40 was written against Shotovcr. Necklace has advanced to 100 to 14 (off), while Turquoise has recoded to 100 to 5 (off.) Mr J. O. Evett, the handicapper of the Auckland Racing Club, the owner of Stoneyhuret, and soveral Southern sportsmen wero passengers by tho s.s. Ringarooma, which arrived this morning.

Tho steeplechaser Granvillo, purchased by Mr J. Gallagher from a Victorian about throe weeks ago, mot with his doatli at the Otahuhuraceson Saturday. After winning the Hurdle raco, he was saddled uplator in the afternoon to contest the Steeplechase, but when occupying a good position in the ovent, ho came down at a 4 foot post and rail fence hidden from view, and ricked his back. Tho obstacle on the landing side had ft treacherous ditch about 3 feet wido, and it seems the horse, getting his hind legs into it, was unable to riso, and rolled ovor. Messrs Halstoad Brothers, tho veterinary surgeons, were coon in attendance, and on examination thoy pronounced tho horße'B injurios of n vory serious character. They at once had him convoyed to a shed belonging to Mr F. Wills, but despite all their efforts he diod at 3 o'clock on Sunday morning. J. Rao, who rodo Granvillo, escaped unhurt.
