The objection made by the police to the renewal of the license of the Flagstaff Hotel, North Shore, to Mr Corcoran was on the ground that the house was ill-conducted, that drunkenness was prevalent on the premises, and that the house was frequented by persons addicted to drink. McEwin, the President handed over his gold cup and a cheque for £5219a 3d to Mr W, F. Buckland, tho winner of the first prize at the coursing meeting. In making the presentation, ho said that ho had little doubt but that the best dog won. They had imported a gentleman as judge, who he believed had given great ' satisfaction, and he had now great pleasure in presenting the gold cup and cheque to Mr W. F. Buckland. Mr Buckland said ho was proud, indeed, of having won the cup ; much more so than of having won the cheque attached to it; not that ho was satisfied that the best dog had won, for ho thought he had a better. But Chloe was a very good bitch, and it would take them all their time to put her out. In presenting the second prize (£26 10s) to Mr J.
