At the J'olice Court to-day, William Blewden was charged with (1) unlawfully challenging William Richard Waddel to fight, (2) with using insulting language to Mr Waddel, and (3) with using abusive nnd indecent language to Mr Waddel. Mr Cotter appeared for tho prosecution, and Mr Rigby, on behalf of Mr Thoo. Cooper, for defendant. Mr Cottersaid the language complained of was used in Wellesley-sticet, whore Mr Waddel mot Mr Blowden on hi. way Loin tho City Council meeting. It was not used during a fracas, as bail been stated. Mr Blowden admitted having used tho languago, but whilo labouring under strong oxcitoinent. His Worship had no private fooling against the defendant, and was not desirous of pressing the charge. Ho had, thoreforo, accepted tho following apology, which had been tendorcd, and suroties would be asked for on tho first information only-.—"Waddel v. Blowden. Tho dofendant expresses his deep contrition for the occurrence in question, withdraws tho language which ho made use of. and apologises to the Mayor for what took place. That ho was labouring under excitement at tho moment, otherwiso ho had no animus against tho Mayor. That ho consents to bo bound over on ono of tho summonsos, himself in £100 and two sureties of £50 each, and to pay tho wholo of tho costs and witnesses' expenses." Mr Rigby oxpresscd Mr Blowden's sonsibility of the Mayor's forbearance, and the dotondant was then bound over for six months.
