ALLEGED FRAUD.
Tuk hearing of tho chargo of attempting to defraud the [Insnrance Companies of £50, yreforrod against Oswald Horzog was resumed at the '-"olico Court this forenoon, Messrs F. G. Clayton and C. L. Rocho woro tho presiding justices. Mr Cotter appoarod for the prosecution, and Mr Si lleskoth dofended the prisoner. Carl J'eterfl wan recalled, and stated that the military papers that had boon produced woro a certificate or kind of passport, showing tho civil or military authoritiea, who tho holder ia, and whero ho comes from, tho profession he follows, his date of birth, the dato he was called upon as a eoldior in tho German army, &c. Each German possossea ono of thoso papers, tho non -possession of which rendered him liable to arrest. Immediately before the fire, there were on tho premises two washingstands, for which the accused charged him 8s Cd, two dressingtabloa worth 8s oach, two choffoniores belonging to Mr Proobsting, worth three guineaa oach, two pair of wash-Htands and dressing-tables in courso of construction, worth £1 por pair, a dining table, partially finished, worth £1, chest and drawors, for which ha was to get 30s, a bookcaso partly finished, worth £4 10s, a kitchen tablo which was used to polish on, worth loss than 10a, a box or trunk, worth £2, a German bench, worth £4, throo English bouchi-'s, worth 25aeach, a saw bench and circular saw, tools to tho valuo of £10. or £15. Tharo wero also ironmongery worth ss, kauri timber worth £4, rimu worth 2, r>H, and other artidos specifiod at length. Mr Hoskoth cross-examined tho witness in detail respecting tho contents of tho building, and was thus engaged at three o'clock.
