ALLEGED MALTREATMENT AT THE HOSPITAL.

Aotlon for £500 Damages.

Smith, the Hospital patient who recently made a series of charges against Dr. Bond, has commenced judical proceedings with the object of recovering damages. He has served a writ on Dr. Bond claiming £500. The accompanying statement of claim sets forth that in or about the month of October, 1883, whilst tho plaintiff was a patient in the Auckland Hospital, the defendant so negligently and unskilfully treated the right log of tho plaintiff, and so improperly neglected the suitable and necessary 'treatment of the plaintiff's right leg, that the plaintiff suffered great pain and torture, and has sustained permanent bodily harm. That in or about the month of March, 1884, the defendant negligently, carelessly, and improperly permitted tho plaintiff to be seriously injured in the right leg by allowing an unsuitable splint to remain on the plaintiffs right leg for several days, by reason of which the plaintiff experienced great pain and suffering. That in or about the month of March, 1884, tho defendant negligently, carelos.-ly, and improperly allowed the plaintiffs right leg to remain without a splint for a period of eight hours, contraty to the commands of the surgeons who had operated on the plaintiff, and hereby the plaintiff suffered greatly, and has sustained permanent bodily harm. The case will be heard shortly in the Supreme Court, Mr W. J. Napier has been retained for the plaintiff. Smith is, we believe, in his seventieth year.
