"SCENE" AT THE THAMES COUNCIL.
(BY TELEGRAPH—OWN CORRESPONDENT.)
. « Thames, this day. A heated discussion, interspersed with violent altercations, took place at the meet-, ing of Thames Borough Council yesterday evening on the subject of the representation of the small ward of Parawai. Messrs McAndrew, Chappell, and Hume, the members for the ward, presented themselves at the Council meeting, and claimed the right to sit until a resolution was actually passed merging the ward in another, and also to vote upon such resolution. The Mayor ruled that they were no longer Councillors, whereupon Mr McAndrew excitedly demanded that he should be allowed to vote, and repeatedly threatened to obstruct tho business until the point was conceded. He defied the Mayor (Col. Fraser, M.H.R.) to send for a constable to eject him from the Chamber, and as the messenger sent for one failed to return, taunted the Mayor with being afraid to carry out his threat. After a prolonged debate, the Ma jor moved a resolution incorporating Parawai with the adjacent ward, which was carried by a majority of acknowledged Councillors. The obstructing persons, accompanied by Messrs Kilgourand Mennie, then withdrew, leaving |a bare quorum to proceed with the business.
