The running of Black Rose at Wellington has been the means of him boing freely sought after for the Auckland Cup, and the best now obtainable about him is 10 to 1.
At Buckland'a to-day, the MusketHatred two-year-old colt was purchased by Mr T. Craig for 41 guineas.* Azim and Sir Garnet were both passed in, failing to fetch the reserve. Vortex was offered at Hunter and Nolan's, but did not find a buyer. The results of the first two events of the Wellington Jockey Club Spring Meeting were published in our second edition last evening. The Jockey Club Handicap of 20050v8., 1} mile, was won by Black Rose, ridden by A. Sutherland, Leonora being second, and Ugly Buck third. Administrator, Bayard, Refrigerator, and Normanby wero the othor starters. Black Rose won easily, the time being Smins. 45secs. The Island Bay Handicap was won by Speculation (late Hippodamia), Consul second, Mata third; ana the Tramway Plate foil to Witiora, who beat Normanby, Laurel, Barbery, Dynamite, and Lady Albany. Tho totalisator paid a £24 divldond on Witiora.
