BOARD OF EDUCATION.

A meeting of the Board of Education was held on Friday afternoon. Present: Messrs Luke (Chairman), Moat, Moss, Carr, Goldio, and Professor Aldis.

Chairman's Report.—This report -iwaa brought up and adopted.

Girls' Hum School.—Several appliestions were received for the Head-mastership of this school. Professor Aldis considered that the names of applicants should not be published, only the names of those who" may be selected from the whole. Mr Goldie thought the whole of the applications should be discussed by the whole Board. On the motion of the Chairman, it was determined that the Board go into Committee at their next sitting, and consider the testimonials and applications. Training College—The appointment o£ a Principal to the Training College was postponed until next week, when a motion received from Professor Tucker by telegram from Waiwora will be considered viz., "That on the 2Sth inst. the Principal of the Training College be invited to retain his appointment, subject to the same' conditions as those on which he accepted it."••■-, Inspector's Report.—A report was received from Mr O'Sullivan re writing in schools.—The report, on the motion of Mr Carr, was ordered to be sent to the CitySchools Committee, and, on the motion of the Chairman, that the full report be considered this day fortnight.—The appointment of a governor to the Whangarei High School was postponed until next week/.

Applications.—Applications from Cambridge ior removal of school to a site nearer the township, from Hobsonville for one full-time school, instead of half-time school, and from Waitoa, for division of district, were referred to the Committee; Application from Committee of Mongoarii for the use of the old school. The Board" decided to adhere to its former resolution, '. that the building be offtred to the Committee for the sum of £100. ParneUi Application for a third school. On tho motion of Mr Goldie, the matter wits'held over pending further information. , Mr Mason's letter referred to committee, Wbangapoua; a letter from this district, informing the Board that the Committee had guaranteed to make up teacher's salary from £80 to £100; Mr Talbot wrote ftom Kihikihi, complaining of the loneliness of his position, and thought he had been'ah exile from his home and family long enough. The question of his removal, however,* was deferred until the receipt of further information from the district.
