ANOTHER OSPREY ON RECORD.

(BT TBLBaRAPH—OWN COKBKSPONDKNT.)

Dunedin, this day. .Relating to the question of a vessel named the Oaprey having ever visited Australia from Great Britain, we are favoured with the following extraot from the diary of J. H. Harris, written on board the barque Poictierß, from London to New Zealand, in 1850. Typhus fever had broken out among the steerage passengers, and the ship's doctor (Coward) contracted tho fever during attendance upon them. His life was despaired of for several days, and Captain Beale, of the Poictierg, was very anxious to speak any vessel met with in order to obtain medical assistance for them. ' The following is the abstract of the diary: "Friday, March 15.—Very hot indeed. The doctor is very ill; scarcely, expected to live. Thermometer, 96 degrees in cabin; wind, N.E. Saturday, 16. Rather cooler. Doctor no better. Spoke the Liverpool ship Osprey to see if she had a medical man on board, which she had not. Passed her again to leeward. about suneet. The thermometer 74 in cabin ; latitude, 19 degrees N. B." Poictiers owned by Duncan, Dunbar,

The people of floly Trinity Church, Otahuhu, are bestirring themselves to have their pretty little church improved. A concert iii to be given by the Glee Club of St. Sepulchre's parish at Otahuhy on, Friday next,-the 28th mß^;., and the proceed* are to Igo towards painting the church, The even, ing should be moonlight, and there are to be readings and recitations by gentlemen amateurs, in addition to the musical portion of the programme, so that a most successful concert is anticipated. It is hoped that the proceeds of the concert will shortly bo supplemented sufficiently from other sources to enable the interior of the church to be painted as well as tho exterior. This church is one of the most striking objects to the eye of a traveller approaching Otahuhu either by rail or road, and when painted and renovated should look very picturesque, situated as it is in grounds nicely planted with trees. At present, however, it is sadly in need of painting, and the concert should be well supported by all in the district who desire to have public worship conducted inra decent and comfortable building. -_-"
