ARRIVAL OF THE HERALD.

- ' The new steamer Herald, owned by Messrs Stone Brothers, of Auckland, Kennedy Brothers of Greymonth.and Captain Savory, master of -the vessel, arrived- from Greynioutn 'on Sunday, and berthed at the Queenstreet Wharf. During to day she was inspected .-by a large number of persons, and pronounced . to be admirably adapted for the trade for which Bho is intended, viz., the cool trade between Grey mouth and this port' She is a vessel of I 356-tons register, the hull, including the decks, V being constructed of steel. Her length is 172 ft.; Q beam, 28ft ; and depth,' 13ft. Her engines - are compound, and steam is supplied oy a steel boiler working up to a. pressure of SOlbs to the square inch. Having pre- . viously given a lengthy description of the vessel, it is not necessary, now to cay further than that she appears to be in every particular satisfactory. Her cargo carrying capacity is I comparatively great, and her cabin is handsomely .fitted up to accommodate 18 passengers. The appearance of the steamer outside is neat, - and afi-! has already proved that her steaming sowers are above tho average. Of the passage out Captain Savory reports as follows:—Left Dundee on September i,at.s: p.m., discharged - pilot offDungonesa on September 10, ut 8 p.m.; ' arrived at Toneriffe on September 10,' at 6 a.m.; * left on September 19, at 1 p.m., crossed the Bquator 8.30 West, September 39, rounded^Cape Of Good* Hope (distant 5 miles) on October 11, at s 3 a.m.; arrived at Hobart on November 12, at 6 ■ pan.; left on November 11 at 5 a.m.; arrived off ! 1 Greymouth bar on November 19, at 8 a.m.: left . on November W, at noon, arriving as above. s Distance ran 6b voyage, 14,309 miles; time ] oooupied on voyage, 76 days; detentions, 3 days; ~; Actual Bteaming time, 73 days.
