Delirium Tremens.—John Jamesßrock, who had been remanded for eight days, was brought up for sentence.—Sergoant Pratt put in a certl- • ticate from Dr _ hilsOn to tho effect that Brock had recovered.—Fined 6s r .posts, and maintenance, lis.
TnE Moreton-btreet Brothel.—Richard Sarsfleld, ilsb hawker, was again brought up on a charge of keeping a brotlioL—Maggie Barstow was charged with having no luwful visible means, ana with the larceny of a shirt, value 7s 6d, the property of Robert Wilson.—Sergeant Pratt explained that prisoners had promised to leave the city for Waikato. Tho police had frequently received complaints or continued disturbances at the brothel in Morcton-Btreet. kopt by prisoner—The several charges were fully proved against the two 'prisoners- by Detective Hughes, Constable Bernard, and a neighbour.— His Worship said- thero were a number of convictions against both prisoners from 1874, to the present time. A short sentence would bo of no uso to tho prisoners.—Twelve months imprisonment each, with hard labour. Obstruction. — Joseph Beatty, contractor, was oharged with a breach of tho by-laws, viz. that he placed a quantity of .bricks un a public thoroughfare without keeping tho .same properly liphtod.—MrE. Cooper, in defence, pleaded not guilty.—A good deal of evidence was adduced by Mr Philips (Town Clerk), Constable Thomas Kelso, for the prosecution, and others for the defence.—The Bench took a lenient view of the oaso, as no doubt tho lamp had been lighted, but cither it went out before the wind or tho breath of the larrikin clement, as auggested by counsel.—Fined Is and Co3ts.
