THE MORGANATIC MARRIAGE.
Princess Alice's Marriage.
London, Ootober I.—The petition of the ■Grand Duke of Hesse for divorce from Mme. K.lomino will be hoard by seven Judges of the Supremo Court at Darmstadt on October 18th. Mmo. Kalomine will oppose the petition. She has declined the allowance granted her by the Grand Duke, and refuses to compromise. If a divorce is refused, the Grand Duke will abdicate. "Truth "says Queen Victoria desires that the divorce be granted, so as to allow the Grand Duke to marry the Duchess of Albany. New York, October 14.—A cable special from London says : A new complication in connection with the morganatic marriage of tho Grand Duke Louis'lV. of Hesse with Mmo. Kalomine is announced. The lady is about to become a mother. Her appeal from the decree of divorce is still pending, but is about to be tried before the highest tribunal recognisedby German law. Itis believed that Mme. Kalomine's condition will influencethe Court, at least to tlie extent of compelling the duke to materially increase the pension of the discarded wife. Mme. Kalomine is said to be avaricious, and the alimony and costs of the suit may beggar the Grand Duke. This contingency has been foreseen by his mother-in-law, Queen Victoria, and it is reported that she holds his written promise to abdicate in favour of his son if the suit be decided in favour of Madame Kalomine.
