HON. E. MITCHELSON AT KAMO.
The Hon. E. Mitchelson met the Kamo electors last evening. The hall was packed, many of those present having come a long distance from the out districts. In answer to a question re tho imposition of an export duty upon kauri baulk timber, he said that he was in favour of such a duty, and would even go still further, and prohibit the exportation of baulk altogether, as the kauri tree cannot be replaced, and, judging from the rapid increase in our population that has taken place during the last ten years, it will shortly booomp necessary to conserve Bur kauri, and prevent it being exported in any form. Several other questions of local interest were answered satisfactorily, and a vote of confidence was proposed by Mr Jamos Wiiitelaw, J.P., seconded by Mr Phillips, and carried unanimously. Quite a forest of hands were held up. The opinion here is that no man would have a ghost of a show against Mr Mitchelson, whether he camo out on the Opposition interest or otherwise.
