LUDICROUS ELECTION FIASCO IN WAIKATO.

Our own correspondent telegraphs to,j a y .—" _\ large and influential meeting of Waikato electors was held at Hamilton on Saturday evening in response to an advertisement in the "Waikato Times." The advertisement had no signature, but during the day it began to be whispered about that the meeting was being called by certain parties with the object of bringing out a Grey candidate in opposition to Mr J. B. Whyte. The rumour spread throughout the district, and at the hour appointed about 150 people had gathered, a large number of whom had come from Cambridge. The person who had inserted the advertisement had not provided for a hall, but this difficulty was obviated by "sending round the hat," and proceedings commenced. Several addresses, defying opposition to Mr Whyte, Mere delivered, and it was generally considered that the "culprit " ias he was termed) who had inserted the aiiveitisemetit calling the meeting was Dr. Beale, a local di* iple of Sir George Grey.
