RAILWAY ACCIDENT.
Reports were current in town yesterday and today that a railway accident had occured near Mercer. The following tologram on tho subject hag reached us:—"Goods train badly off the line at Mercer. Nobodyinjured." OnoofourreportcrsinterviewedMiC. Hudson, Traffic Manager, to-day, in reforenco to the occurrence, and ho described Jt as being of a vory trivial charactor. Ho says that about ten o'clock yesterday forenoon, the goods train was shunting in tho Mercer yard when a disarrangement in tho points throw tho engine clean off tho line. Driver Whitburn thought the points wero _lear when ho was approaching thorn. Tho engine was replaced, and was running again to-day. It will thus bo seen that the telegram showed tho mishap in a more serious light than it really occupied.
