ELECTION NOTES
City h est.—Mr J. M. Dargaville {^drosses tho electors in St. James's Hall tcPiight. It is said that 300 electors have signed tho requisition asking Mr W. Swansou to contest tho seat, but that gentleman has not yet declared his candidature.
New_os.—To-morrow (Thursday) evening Mr DeLautour's first address to tho electors will be delivered in the Ponsonby Hall. To-night Mr Peacock speaks at Arch Hill, and Mr Garrard " orates " in the Ponsonby Hall.
EiiEN.—Mr Chas. Atkin, the "working man " candidate for this district, announces meetings with the electors ; the first taking place on Friday next in the Nowton Atheiueum. Franklin* North.—Mr Buckland visited the Island of Waiheke on Monday, and after addressing the electors in the schoolroom received a unanimous vote of confidence Franklin South.—At Waiuku, on Saturday night, Mr Hamlin addressed a meeting of electors, and waa accorded a unanimous vote of confidence. Rodney.—On Monday night Mr Moat addressed tho electors at Aratapu, Mr Ludlow presiding. At tho closo of an ablo address the candidate received a vote of thanks, the motion for a vote of confidence being defeated by a small majority.
Bay of Island...—Mr Hobbs grot a unanimous vote of thanks and confidence from the electors at Herd's l'oint on Monday night. Parnell. — Captain Brnckonbury is spokon of as a possiblo candidate for tho representation of this district. Some Parnell electors aro getting up a requisition asking Mr R. Fitzgerald, of Hobson Park, to plrtco himself in nomination and address them at the district hall.
Tiik Temperance Platform.—The Temperance bodies in Auckland have drawn up a circular of the policy which they wish candidates to pursue with regard to tho Licensing Act. It embraces tho retention of the present low, popular annual election of licensing committees, abolition of barmaids, and suppression of bars in connection with hotels.
The Okaxoe Plat.okm.— The Executivo and Political Committee of the Orange Society-ask candidates to oppose grants to denominational schools, to reduce grant, to Orphan Homes connected with any religious body when tho cost of such Homes is in excess of Government institutions, to maintain the present subdivision of city electorates, and to .support nominated immigration only, one half of tho immigrants to bo English and tlio oilier half in the proportion ofthreo Scotch and four Irish.
