Akteu negotiations extending ovor a number of inor.ths wo learn that Mr Kdgoumbe. the proprietor of tho Western Springs estate, has agreed to accept the oiler of tho City Council, £10,700, for the proporty. Wo bolievo that tho first demand mado by Mr Edgoumbe for the property was something liko £20,000. Tho Couucil declined to have anything to do with it at that prioe, and it was subsequently put up f°r salo by auction, tho host offer for It boing £10,000, at which figure it was withdrawn. Thesatlsfaoiory settleiuent of this matter must be highly satisfactory to citlzona, as, ti a certain extent, ft insures tho purity of the city water supply.
