Perepi \yhatino, Natoua.Kiko, Uporo, and Harita Hamuera were charged -M on the information of Mr Percy Smith, Assistant Surveyor-General, with obstruot- ' f ing and hindering; also with resisting M Donald Stubbing, surveyor, in tho execution cf his duty in surveying Waotu South ■'". Block. Mr Keesing appeared for accused, 1 and 'pleaded not guilty. The charges having been proved, His Worship aeked accused what they had to say re- ■ garding future conduct. Natoua re-i;^| plied that they would not agree that surveyors should come on to the ground. ; His Worship explained that the surveyors 1 going on to the land did not interfere with the question of title in any way.—Manata IB replied that when Government granted their application for the re-hearing of the '■"• Waotu South case, he would allow tho I survey to go on. —The Bench then delivered 9 \ the following deoision :—On the first charge we fine Matana £20, Whatuao £10, and the two women £10 each with costs, . ri £16 lGs 6d to bo bo divided over all. oni^;| the second charge we fine Matana £5, Piriri £5, and the two women we caution ■; not to do anything of the kind again. The | four to pay £1 3s 6d costs. The natives in subsequenty agreed to allow the survey to go on conditionally that they were allowed I to remain on the land.
