Three Thousand Carcases Affected,

The number of carcases that are damaged in the shipment of frozen meat by theMataura is 3,000. The causo is attributed to the meat having been frozen while warm. [The total cargo of frozen meat taken by the Mataura embraced the following consignments -.—6,577 carcases mutton, 239J carcases mutton, i\ carcases veal, and 40J Carcases veal, by New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company ; 420 carcases mutton, 591 backs mutton, 21 boxes fish, 51 brace pheasants, 2 boxes assorted meats, 1 leg mutton, and 0 hindquarters beef, by Fisher and Co. (Limited); and 202 carcases mutton by Grice and Parker. The meat was insured in the Now Zealand Insurance Company for £10,626, of which £7,626 was re-insured in various Colonial and other offices. It will bo seen from tho above information that Only about one-third of the cargo is damaged, so that tho loss is not so serious an was at first feared, and is, besides, well distributed.]
