CITY SCHOOLS COMMITTEE.

An adjourned meeting of tho City Schools Committee was held last evening. Present :—Messrs J. C. Can- (in the chair), Ryan, Ofl'er, and Warburton.

From the Board op Education.—Letters from the Board wcru read as follows:—(1) Agreeing to tho temporary appointment for three months of Mr BoltU' to the Beresfordstreot school ; (2) that repairs to tho roof of Wellosley-street school had been attended to; (3) authorising the temporary employment of Mr Arthur Mabbitt, probationer, to Welleslcy-street school during tho absence of the second assistant master; that Miss Lily S. Grico, pupil teacher, has been attached to Nelson-street school; and Jlr H. B. Wilson, probationer, temporarily attached to Beresford-street school, has been removed ; (4) that it is proposed to remove Miss Burton, assistant, and Miss Coleman, probationer, from Nelson-street school to ether schools where their services are required, and that the Board proposes to appoint as assistant teacher at the same school Miss Helen A; Hosseck, certificated teacher (D 4), now employed at Kauaoranga Girls' School, Thames; (5) asking (re dismissal of Mr Brown from "VVellesley-street) whether the Committee's conclusion that "Mr Worthington was fully justified in the removal of Mr Brown " was to be interpreted to mean that all or any of the specific charges laid by the Head-master against Mr Brown wero deemed to be proved to tho satisfaction of the Committeo ; (0) that the Board having carefully considered the charges and the Committee's report, is satisfied that Mr Brown has been guilty of gross misbehaviour, and has therefore dismissed him from the Board's employment; (7) referring to a memo, from tho Board to the effect that there wero 237 children not attending school in tho Freeman's Bay district, and applying that Committee should furnish names, ages, and residences, and the number in each city school residing outsido of boundaries. Theso communications wero dealt with as follows :—(4) Committee decided to inquire why Board proposed to remove Miss Burton ; (7) that tho Committee will supply names, ages, and addresses, as required, but that no notice be taken of tho second request. FiN'ANCi:.—Tho financial statement was presented. It was intimated that the liabilities at tho end of tho year would amount to £97, and there would be aclaim of £10 for fuel. The balance in bank was £62 8s 7d.

Cleansing Schools. — The Committeo decided to ask the Board to paint the inside of Wellosloy-street school, and to place wire netting over tho ventilators of all city schools to prevent ingress of birds. Tiie Albert Park.— The Secretary was directed to write to Mr Worthington drawing his attention to tho damage done in tho Park by school children throwing paper about, and asking him to keep tho scholars insid.s school grounds during luncheon time.
